General Information for the Retirement Savings Plans

To help you plan for your retirement, UH provides a 403(b)/401(k) Retirement Savings Plans.

The UH Retirement Savings Plans are designed to provide a foundation of retirement income for all eligible employees. UH provides matching funds for eligible employees who are contributing their own funds into the plans.  The retirement savings plans are designed to work with the UH Pension Plan and Social Security to help UH employees reach their retirement goals.

Contributions
Through automatic payroll deduction, you can contribute between 1% and 75% of your eligible pay on either (i) a pretax basis or (ii) post-tax basis through a Roth contribution option. Contributions are subject to annual IRS dollar limits. Employees determined to be highly compensated may have additional limitations.

Company Contributions
University Hospitals will match 50% of each dollar you contribute, whether on a pre-tax or post-tax basis, on the first 6% of pay that you defer to your Plan. For company contribution eligibility rules, click here.

Vesting
You are always 100% vested in all contributions you make to your plan, as well as any earnings on them. You will be 100% vested in the employer matching contributions after three years of employment.

Contribution Limits
The IRS contribution limit is $18,500 for 2018.

"Catch Up" Contributions
If you have reached age 50 or will reach age 50 during the calendar year (January 1 - December 31) and are contributing the maximum plan or IRS pre-tax contribution, you may make an additional "catch-up" contribution each pay period. The maximum annual catch-up contribution is $6,000 for 2018.

Enrollment
New Hires and Rehires are automatically enrolled in the plan.  You will receive additional communication from Fidelity Investments including, how to update your contribution percentage, how to allocate your investments, and information about the UH fund line-up.  Employees who are not currently participating are eligible to enroll in the plan at any time.
